What is Physiotherapy?

 

Physiotherapy, often referred to as physio, uses physical methods, such as massage and manipulation, to promote healing and well being. Physiotherapy treatments are often used to help restore a person’s range of movement after injury or illness.

By using a number of different approaches and techniques, a physiotherapist can help a person overcome injury or short-term health problems, or manage long-term disability

 

What is Pilates?

 

Pilates is a routine of exercises that target deep postural muscles, building strength from inside out. Pilates can be used for back care management as it aids postural alignment, improves flexibility, strength, co-ordination and is a great way to relieve stress and tension. Pilates has been used by elite athletes to improve performance and decrease risk of injury.

Pilates exercises can be performed at home on a mat, with a towel to support your head. It is important that the exercises are performed correctly and in a safe manor to ensure that you prevent injury. It is advised that you gain instruction from a qualified instructor to help you understand  the basic set-up prior to progressing to higher level exercises. Pilates exercises should not cause discomfort and if so always tell your instructor.
